KEPAHIANG.LSM99 – Eight Indonesian badminton players have been heavily sanctioned by the BWF (Badminton World Federation) for their involvement in betting and match fixing.

The announcement was made by the BWF on Wednesday (27/3/2024).

The punishment imposed by the BWF is the result of allegations made since 2021.

In their statement, the BWF took disciplinary action against eight Indonesian players as well as players from Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, and India.

“The BWF Disciplinary Panel has determined that the alleged violations of the BWF Statutes have occurred and has the authority to impose sanctions,” said the BWF statement.

The Indonesian athletes punished by the BWF for their involvement in match fixing are Hendra Tandjaya (men’s doubles, mixed doubles), Ivandi Danang (men’s doubles, mixed doubles), Androw Yunanto (men’s singles, men’s doubles), Sekartaji Putri (women’s singles, mixed doubles), Mia Mawarti (women’s singles), Fadila Afni (women’s singles, women’s doubles), Aditiya Dwiantoro (men’s doubles), and Agriprinna Prima Rahmanto Putra (men’s singles, men’s doubles, mixed doubles).

In a decision dated December 22, 2020, the Independent BWF Panel imposed a lifetime ban on Hendra Tandjaya, Ivandi Danang, and Androw Yunanto.

Furthermore, Sekartaji Putri was banned from playing badminton for 12 years until January 18, 2032, and fined US$12,000 or around Rp190.5 million.

Mia Mawarti and Fadilla Afni were banned from playing badminton for 12 years until January 18, 2030, and fined US$10,000.

Aditya Dwiantoro was banned from playing badminton for 7 years until January 18, 2027, and fined US$7,000.

Meanwhile, Agripinna Prima Rahmanto was banned from playing for 6 years until January 18, 2026, with a fine of US$3,000. All of these punishments took effect on January 18, 2020.

These Indonesian players have been given a 21-day deadline to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
